I began my life as a pro-choice activist in junior high, when I was kicked out of a speech contest sponsored by the local Catholic high school: my topic was "why abortion must remain legal." While I never got to deliver my speech in competition, I did give it to my classmates in Sister Miriam's 7th-grade English class. Hope those kids were paying attention. And I hope that vein in Sister's forehead went down eventually.

In the decades since, I've been a devoted supporter of Planned Parenthood and NARAL; a regular in front of the Supreme Court building in DC most every January 22; author of numerous pro-choice Usenet posts and pre-blog-era websites circa the mid to late 90s; and one of a million at the March for Women's Lives in 2004. Oh yes: and the grateful recipient of an abortion I've never spent 5 minutes regretting.

Since May 31, 2009, when Dr. Tiller was assassinated, my grief has yielded to fury and a renewed vow of action. I'm escorting patients at a local clinic; I'm rousing the rabble on Twitter; I'm hitting every vigil and protest I can find; and now I have a new website too. I'll never give in to fear. I'll never stop making noise. And I will never go back.
